Gage Academy of Art is committed in building a vibrant visual-arts community in the Northwest through programs that educate, enrich and engage artists and the public.
The Communications Manager works with the Executive Director, Graphic Designer, individual staff members and Communications Committee to create marketing and communications plans and quarterly reports. The Communications Manager increases awareness of and interest in Gage Academy, and represents the school to the local and national community in print and online.
Currently the Communications Manager position is three-quarters time(32 hours/week - over five days a week), reporting to the Executive Director and supervising the Graphic Designer. Successful applicant should be an effective initiator with marketing and visual communication experience, and ideally have a design background to art-direct image-rich communications projects.
MARKETING
Creation and implementation of Annual Communications Plan, schedules and budget
Execution of Marketing Plan to ensure the growth, expansion and fulfillment of the Academy mission
Buy print, radio and web advertising for adult and youth programs and events
Create ad campaign concepts that are consistent with Gage Brand Platform
Oversee production and distribution of local and national ads with Graphic Designer
Create quarterly marketing reports
PRINT COMMUNICATIONS
Oversee content development, editing and production of Adult and Youth program print materials, including catalogs, posters, flyers, postcards, programs, invitations, etc., in coordination with the Executive Director, School Manager, Youth Program Manager, Development Manager and Graphic Designer
Oversee creation and posting in-house event/exhibition posters as needed
Maintain policy of House Style Sheet and Gage Brand Platform within all print materials
ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS
Web site maintenance posting and updating of Gage information & events
Edit and format monthly e-mail newsletter
Research, write and/or edit content for web pages; update and maintain existing pages in coordination with Graphic Designer and Gage staff using content management system
Create and distribute periodic e-mail announcements and invitations
Maintain policy of House Style Sheet and Gage Brand Platform within all web materials
PUBLIC RELATIONS
Develop relationships with media; maintain contact files and media databases; facilitate media requests (schedule interviews, host media, provide images and background information, etc.)
Create and distribute press and publicity materials for Academy events, feature stories, business news, student, faculty and staff profiles and arts issues
Develop and implement annual press plan, individual press campaigns and monthly calendar-listing notifications
Update online newsroom including recent media coverage, news releases, multimedia press kits, Academy information, etc.
Provide media training for key staff and other interview subjects, as needed
Obtain print and web copies of all media coverage; create quarterly publicity reports
Research and maintain corporate information, including the Academys history, mission, general statistics and staff bios.
Required Credentials and Experience
Minimum two years professional experience in nonprofit communications, public relations, art administration or related field
Bachelor's degree in communications, English, public relations or relevant field (or a combination of education, training and/or experience, which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of this position)
Experience developing and coordinating effective marketing, media and community relations materials and campaigns
Knowledge of and connections within local media and arts communities
Ability to maintain brand integrity by ensuring proper and consistent use of brand through branding and style guidelines, including implementation throughout all departments and updating of the Gage House Style Sheet and Brand Platform

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Fluent in both Chicago Manual of Style and AP Style
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office
Experience using Photoshop
Familiarity with basic HTML, content management systems and/or Contribute
Some experience with Access or similar database programs
