Gage Facilities Manager
Gage Academy of Art is committed to excellence in visual-arts education and leadership in building a vibrant arts community in the Northwest. Gage seeks an experienced Facilities Manager to run its 15,000+ square foot arts facility in an historic building on North Capitol Hill while working with a team of dedicated colleagues committed to its cultural mission.

The Facilities Manager works closely with the Gage staff to coordinate and prepare for all programs and development events that Gage presents. Maintaining the structural integrity and functioning of the physical premises is top priority to ensure that Gage operates as a clean, safe and professional educational facility.

Currently the Facilities Manager position is ¾ time at 32 hours per week, reporting to the School Manager and Executive Director. Successful applicant should be able to demonstrate responsibility and flexibility as well as initiative and problem solving skills.

The Facility Manager must have administrative skills in order to check and respond to daily emails and phone messages; schedule and supervise all quarterly work study and studio volunteer; maintain control of all maintenance supplies and equipment inventories and other computer-based work, as required.

Specific Responsibilities in Prioritized Order:

FACILITIES
. Assess and address physical needs of structure, including plumbing, electrical, heating, and general janitorial issues as needed
. Schedule and organize contractors needed to maintain physical structure and utilities (i.e. plumbing, electrical, heating).
. Maintain studio classroom’s functionality by repairing and providing adequate studio equipment and supplies.
. Plan and execute studio improvements during school breaks. Includes studio re-organization, lighting installation, painting, and cleaning.
. Coordinate the opening and closing of the school daily.
. Coordinate the cleaning of the school facility on daily & weekly schedules.
. Maintain environmentally safe atmosphere with appropriate standards for hazardous materials.
. Be a presence and a resource for the Gage community of employees, students, and teachers of Gage.
. Supervise Facility Assistant as well as Work Study students in the execution of some of the above-noted work.

PROGRAM FACILITATION
. Coordinate and train studio volunteers for all educational programs.
. Assist Program Manager by procuring and transporting class supplies and equipment.
. Set-up and facilitate the use of audio/visual equipment for lectures and classroom presentations.
. Distribute and coordinate distribution of Gage promotional catalogs throughout Seattle Metropolitan area quarterly.
. Work closely with School Manager to assure physical needs of all school programs are effectively planned for and addressed.

EVENTS SUPPORT
. Plan and prepare facility for public events (lectures, open houses, art openings, Drawing Jam, auctions, and other fundraisers).
. Work intensely with Event Planner to assess event needs.
. Procure and transport event elements such as rental equipment, food, and donations.
. Work with Gage staff and population to seek out volunteer support for events.
. Attend to equipment and supply needs for event.

Professional Experience:
. 1-3 years experience managing a facility
. Demonstrated experience in managing people & budgets
. Minimal carpentry skills needed. Knowledge of basic plumbing and electrical maintenance.
. Ability to work in hands-on environment with limited resources
. Computer literate with Word, Access & Excel

Personal Qualities:
. Industrious, resourceful, well-organized, self-motivated and flexible.
. Desire to maintain a professionally-run art school.
. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
. Familiarity with PC programs including email & calendar on Outlook, Word & Excel.
. Ability to work flexible hours with some work weeks more concentrated than others.
. Committed and enthusiastic about Gage Academy mission and programs
. Team builder with strong skills in management and leadership
. Straightforward, self-motivated and diplomatic
. Willing to work hands-on to solve problems as they arise
. Emotionally mature with sense of humor
