Please note: there is a $25 partial materials fee payable to the instructor (by check or cash) which includes:

Wax (2 pounds)

Pound cake container

OPTIONAL: Additional blocks of wax (can be purchased from instructor upon request)

REQUIRED:
Brushes:

• A large flat bristle utility brush, 2-3" wide
• Bristle filberts: 4, 8
• Assorted utility cheap bristle brushes

Painting surfaces:
Several panels (not canvas boards or canvases) (approximately 12 x 9") and at least one larger one (approximately 15 x 20"), preferably primed with encaustic-compatible priming or unprimed, See more on surface on the following websites:

Please have at least one panel ready to go for the first class.

Paint: My preference for the class use would be oil sticks; if you already have powder or oil paint that would be acceptable.

• burnt umber and sienna
• alizarin crimson
• different greens
• different blues
• different yellows
• oranges and reds

Please have at least some of these at the first session Medium:

• Dorland’s wax medium or equivalent; please have this item at the first session
• Dammar Resin or crystals; please have this at the first session Miscellaneous: Please bring these to the first class. The stencils can be an exception. We talk about it in class.
  • Muffin tin for 6 muffins to make encaustic cakes (flexible muffin tins are a plus)
  • Some tuna cans
  • Rags
  • Sketchpad
  • Charcoal or pencil
  • Stencils
  • Palette for mixing paint; a piece of plywood or glass will do
