Teo & Michael Shantz
Teo Shantz, age 21, is one of the most talented and in-demand young drummers and percussionists in the Northwest.

Born and raised in a family of full-time musicians, he has literally lived inside music his entire life. Shantz started performing at age 14 and has toured and played throughout the United States and Canada, as well as Trinidad, Brazil and Cuba.

He currently works full time as local performer and educator. His focus is on broadening public understanding of drumming and percussion and its relation to different cultures. He is a returning Gage instructor.

Michael Shantz has been a professional musician and steel pan player for over 25 years. He is the director of Bakra Bata’ Music and Dance, a nationally touring, Seattle-based performance ensemble founded in 1984.

Shantz has extensive experience teaching steel pan and percussion to all age levels in workshops and residencies throughout the country and abroad. He currently is the director of the Summit K-12 Steel Band Program and has about 60 middle and high school students in two performance groups.
