  NEW! Still-Life Painting Atelier Shows at Fountainhead Gallery
May 6-30
Opening Reception: Saturday, May 8, 5:00pm-7:00pm

Gage artists from the Still-Life Painting Atelier led by Gary Faigin show their work at Fountainhead Gallery this month in the exhibition The Objects of Our Attention. Artists include Suzanne Burnell, Larine Chung, Kreina Clement, David Ellis, Haena Reed, Charles Smith, Julie Stonebraker, Susan Torrance and D. Lisa West.

  Summer Registration begins May 10!

NEW! You told us you wanted more options for summer classes, so we’ve restructured the summer quarter to feature TWO five-week sessions. Our first summer session of exciting programs begins the week of June 26! Those summer classes and workshops can be found online starting May 1, with online registration available for your convenience.

  Best of Gage is Around the Corner!

Gage students celebrate a year filled with artistic creativity and intensive study at the 18th annual Best of Gage, a multi-floor exhibition of art. Did you take a class or workshop at Gage this school year? Then submit your work for the show! See details further down.

Select works from the show are available for sale, and the Vernissage offers an exclusive private showing from 5:00pm-6:00pm — before the general public arrives. E-mail Caroline Bobanick or call her at 206-323-4243, ext. 16, to purchase your ticket.

Art & Process with Timothy Cross

Artist Timothy Cross discusses his current work and his ongoing obsession with drawing. His art combines abstraction, found imagery, truth, fiction, and both actual and imagined places, resulting in lush compositions that convey dreamlike worlds. Explore a variety of media and styles to develop a body of 3-D work. Use paper, metal, fabric and more to design unique sculptures based on your preliminary drawings. Bring your ideas to life while learning new processes and building your visual thinking skills.

Learn the basics of printmaking using water-based inks. Explore relief, monotype, stencil, dry point and collograph techniques to create prints and print collages. Focus on combining different media, selecting imagery and approaches to composition in this fun mixed-media class.

  Sharon Arnold Joins Gage as
Youth Programs Manager


Gage bids a fond farewell to Olivia Britt as she moves on to the Seattle Art Museum, and welcomes local artist and educator Sharon Arnold into the role of Gage Youth Programs Manager.

Sharon studied at Pratt Institute in New York, focusing on sculpture and art history, and completed her last year and a half magna cum laude at Cornish College of the Arts in 2006. Welcome Sharon!

You told us you wanted snacks on site; we’ve acted. A snazzy new vending machine on the first floor takes cash, credit and debit cards, and offers bunches of better-for-you-snacks. All proceeds from the vending machine go directly to the Gage Scholarship Fund.

Colloquial: an Exhibition of Local Ceramics

Through May 15

This exhibition showcases Northwest ceramists who use clay to depict subtle narratives that range from universal allegories to specific personal experiences. Exhibiting artists include Diem Chau, Geo Lastomirsky, Akio Takamori, Tip Toland and Patti Warashina.

This exhibition examines how ideas evolve as a piece is created. From the most linear translations to more spontaneous solutions, this show illuminates the varied processes of participating artists including Timothy Cross, Dawn Cerny, Robin Crookall, Gage Youth Instructor Ryan Finnerty, Julia Freeman and Matthew Offenbacher. Don't miss the concurring lecture by Cross on May 21.
