Studios at Gage

Gage is proud to offer clock hour credits for educators in our adult classes and workshops in drawing, painting and sculpting. Register for classes as normal, and for an administrative fee of $45 per 30 hours completed, you can earn clock hours toward your education license.

Gage Academy of Art is a clock hour eligible provider and completes all necessary paperwork. No district approval is necessary to acquire clock hours through Gage. Look for the clock symbol in the quarterly catalog for eligible classes, or contact the Registrar at Info@GageAcademy.org or call 206.323.4243 x10.

In Partnership With The Da Vinci Initiative

Gage offers special programs just for educators in partnership with The Da Vinci Initiative, a non-profit organization that supports skill-based professional development resources for K-12 teachers. These programs accrue clock hours, and are taught by skill-based artists with backgrounds and training in education.

DRAWING TECHNIQUES FOR EDUCATORS
Sat-Sun 9:30am-4:30pm [2 days]
In this workshop, participants are introduced to the skill-based model for teaching drawing in K-12 classrooms. Explore a variety of methods for training young artists, including the use of Bargue plates, plaster casts, master copies and still-life drawing. Each tool is introduced and presented with lesson plans for use in home classrooms. 12 clock hours are included in the cost of this program.

PERSPECTIVE FOR ART EDUCATORS
Sat-Sun 9:30am-4:30pm [2 days]
In this two-day workshop designed specifically for educators, participants learn how to teach effective beginning, intermediate and advanced perspective lessons to their students. The workshop begins by introducing simplified perspective lessons for elementary students and then quickly builds skills throughout middle school lesson plans. The workshop finishes with advanced perspective for high school students. Complicated perspective problems are introduced to improve each teachers’ own skill level with perspective. This workshop covers one- and two-point perspective, inclined and declined planes, drawing curves in perspective, creating vanishing points, finding existing vanishing points in a picture plane and much more. 12 clock hours are included in the cost of this program.

PORTRAIT DRAWING FOR ART TEACHERS
Saturday 1:30pm-4:30pm [4 afternoons]
In this workshop designed specifically for educators, participants learn advanced portrait drawing skills. Learn how to set up and light a model using geometric composition principles. Then, draw portraits from life by applying skill-based block-in and shading techniques. Throughout the workshop an emphasis is placed on how to break each skill into lesson plans for use in teachers’ home classrooms. 12 clock hours are included in the cost of this program.
ALL SKILL LEVELS – $195 (12 clock hours/cost includes clock hour fee)

SUMMER

DRAWING INTENSIVE FOR EDUCATORS SESSION I
Mon-Fri 9:30am-4:30pm [5 days]
Drawing can be taught! Join certified educator Mandy Hallenius for a week-long workshop, and discover an accessible approach to skill-based drawing education. Daily studio session topics cover approaches to line and form drawing, measurement, tonal analysis, perspective and master copy work. Educators learn how to translate advanced drawing concepts into innovative lesson plans with a strong focus on assessment strategies. Instruction is highly individualized, and students are given multiple individual critiques throughout each studio session. Participants are encouraged to sign up for both Session I and Session II to allow for optimal studio time in order to digest and apply a multitude of new information into sophisticated drawing projects. Participants are also encouraged to re-take this class multiple times for full integration of skills into their own drawing practice. 30 clock hours are included in the cost of this program.
