Taylor Dow is an Olympia-based comics artist and active contributor to the Pacific Northwest’s rich DIY comics scene. They earned their BFA studying interdisciplinary arts at The Evergreen State College and work professionally as an illustrator for Heart of the Deernicorn, a story game company in Olympia. Their comics interrogate masculinity by manipulating found tropes in man-made arts. Taylor’s teaching style centers collaboration, community-building, and improvisation, emphasizing the interdisciplinary merits of comics in a way that is accessible and playful.
Create active acrylic paintings that express movement, action, and gesture. We will explore various drawing tools and painting surfaces and techniques, while responding to design challenges and landscapes that we construct.+ Come create comics that focus on readability, flow, and collaboration to make works that are as fun to read as they are to make. Through group cartooning and writing exercises, we will work together to create characters and worlds which are engaging, challenging, and true to each of our voices.
