Jonathan Happ is representational painter born and raised in northwestern Illinois. He attended Iowa State University to study painting and philosophy, earning a BFA in 2010 and in 2014 earned an MFA in painting and drawing from the University of Washington in Seattle. Jonathan has been selected as an artist in residence in the US and internationally in Singapore.
Jonathan has designed and instructed painting and drawing courses around the state of Washington, receiving the Parnassus Teaching with Excellence award as well as a Meritorious Visiting Faculty award from the University of Washington. He exhibits nationally and internationally and currently resides in Seattle, Washington.

A two-day observational painting workshop specifically designed for beginning students in oil or acrylic. We will address many of the foundational issues involved in picture making including value, color, temperature, and intensity and touch on painting as a historical language. Through short exercises and studies, students will begin to develop a basis for the technical craft and vocabulary of observational painting. Prior drawing experience is recommended.
