Introduction To Metal Point Drawing

Aron Hart is an award-winning artist and art instructor, living in the Seattle area.  He specializes in oil paintings and drawings.  Dedicated to learning, Aron has continued to develop his skills over the years, studying locally and abroad, and most recently completing three years in the Drawing and Painting Atelier program at Gage Academy of Art.

  • Golden Silverpoint/Drawing Ground
  • 2” Foam Brush
  • Masking Tape
  • 140lb hot press watercolor paper (1 sheet)
  • Drawing tool: There are a number of alternatives including:
    • Cretacolor Silverpoint Stiletto Pen OR
    • A Pin vise to hold wire points (silver, brass, copper etc.)** OR
    • Silverpoint Stylus sold by Natural (I prefer a thin point)
  • Sandpaper (one piece of 220 sandpaper)
  • A couple of small still life object to draw from
  • X-acto knife or snap blade

NOTE: There will be a $5 Materials Fee collected at the start of class to help pay for additional materials bought and prepared by the instructor to keep student costs down. There will be a few pin vises available to purchase from the instructor on a first come basis.

Metal point, also more commonly referred to as silverpoint, has been practiced primarily during the Renaissance by artists such as Albrecht Dürer, Jan van Eyck and Leonardo Da Vinci. In this class we will cover the basics of materials, drawing grounds, techniques, and the variety of metals used in the process, such as copper, silver and gold.
