Artists are made, not born.

Our Mission:
Guided by the belief that artists are made, not born, the Gage Academy of Art (Gage) offers classical instruction in the principles of drawing, painting and sculpting. Gage is dedicated to helping artists of all ages and all levels of proficiency meet the challenges of creating contemporary art with insight, skill and sound technique.

At Gage Academy, skill building and artist making are central to our mission. There are as many ways to learn to make art as there are artists. Gage offers instruction to fit a variety of learning styles, with a course of visual arts education that includes three major dimensions of study – drawing, painting and sculpting. With this three-fold approach to learning the fundamentals of visual organization, each media informs the others.

Gage Academy has become a national resource for artists, from beginners to seasoned professionals, who seek quality arts education and professional development opportunities. Many students hold full-time jobs. The flexibility and openness of the educational programs at Gage allow our students to pursue technical skills or subject matter on a schedule that suits their personal needs. At the same time, the Academy offers a full-time curriculum for those engaging in art making as a career.

Professional instructors at the Academy are artists representing a wide spectrum of approaches and philosophies – artists whose passion for sharing what they do creates precisely the sort of studio learning that enables you to acquire the technical skills to realize your inner vision.

In a world where formal training is difficult to find, Gage offers relevant courses and programs of study for every student of fine art. Over the years, Gage has prepared a force of talented, hard working artists with a firm grasp of the “how” of art making and the confidence to discover the “why.”
