This summer Gage presents eight one-week art workshops where kids can discover and imagine new ways to try out their ideas with art. Each workshop includes two classes: one visual art and one movement art.
Whether you're sketching or painting or moving your feet, discover new ways to express your imagination.

Greg Stump Do you love to doodle? Are you an avid story teller? Then create and design you own comic! Learn how to draw faces, figures, expressions and a little basic perspective. Lay out your finished comic and contribute to a class anthology for everyone to take home. Try out some hand-made animation techniques and more in this fun week of comic adventures.

Start with fun warm ups, move into physical and group activities and continue with games that build theater skills. Improvise, hone your acting skills and put on a play at the end of the week, all with lots of laughter and fun!

Marita Dingus Give new life to old objects! Fabric and wire become dolls and action figures ready for adventures. Every character needs a sidekick — create an animal pal for yours! Make a jewelry box using cardboard and fabric and fill it with your own hand-crafted wire-and-bead jewelry. Sculpt the body’s tool for creation — your hand and show it off on Friday. Your friends and family will be wowed by your ingenuity!

Hip Hop Ya Don’t Stop Mia Beardsley Hip hop is an interactive arts and dance experience that keeps you on your toes. Stop, look around and hear the sound of the city where you live! Decorate your environment with colors, songs and creative movement. Learn a new dance that adds to the sounds and hustle and bustle of the city. Calling all dancing stars!

2D & 3D Animals
Piper Carling Learn to draw and build realistic looking animals in 3-D! Experiment with several different mediums while learning drawing skills like building shape through value contrast. Challenge your artistic side while having fun studying cool animals all week long. Use your drawings to inspire your own paper-mâché animal puppet.

Puppets Perform Juliet Waller Pruzan Together with your classmates, create a magical performance with the puppet you create. Bring the puppets to life as they tell a story, dance to a song and allow your imagination to soar! Warm-up exercises and improvisations get your creative juices flowing. Become any fantasy creature you want — all it takes is your imagination! The fun isn’t over when you complete your mask. Wear your creation during Friday’s drumming perfomance and let your fantasy character really come alive!

Zimbabwe Games Lora Lue Chiorah-Dye “If you can talk, you can sing, and if you can walk, you can dance” is a saying from Zimbabwe. Let electrifying African rhythms move your body and soul while learning traditional, interactive movement games from Zimbabwe. Have fun in cooperative play, learning rhythmic steps and movements paired with traditional songs and dance. Wear your fantasy mask while showing off your new moves in the final Friday performance.

Gretchen Leggitt Learn to combine your drawing and painting skills to create an array of beautiful masterpieces. Explore tools ranging from colored pencils and charcoal to acrylics and watercolors to create unique and imaginative compositions. Hone in on drawing skills with still-life and perspective studies, or transform yourself into an Expressionist through abstract art creations.

Freestyle Yoga Flow Jillia Pessenda Let your body flow into shapes, objects, animals and more by riding the wave of physical formation in this yoga-movement class! You learn basic poses and sequences like sun salutations that free the body, mind and imagination. Play games, improvise movement and unwind through yoga asana. Use your body as the inspiration for your drawings and paintings in your Draw & Paint class.
