Sketchbook Techniques & Expression
with Edie Everette
Mondays | Feb 22 – Mar 22 | 1:30pm-4:30pm
Sketchbooks are a place for both artistic and expressive freedom. They can cure perfectionism and foster play. Sketchbooks may be private journals or art for display. In this class you will learn drawing and mark-making techniques along with ways to incorporate texture, tracing paper, collage, photographs, stenciling and free-writing into your sketchbook practice. Together we will watch short slide shows of artistic examples, show and tell our weekly progress, learn and practice techniques, work on assignments, and have friendly and helpful group critiques. If you wish to begin a specific project, Edie will customize your exercises for that purpose. Optional homework will be given.

Drawing From a Different Angle
with Bruce Morser
Wednesdays | Feb 24 – Mar 24 | 6:30pm-9:30pm
Everyone can learn to draw and everyone is creative. Drawing is as much a “mindset” as a “skill”. Many judge skill first and never try to progress. This class is divided into three parts to tackle that conundrum: we’ll open the mindset with several specific exercises and drawings, then focus on simple strategies for converting an increasing visual awareness. After that, you will progress to more complex topics like composition and expression to ensure drawing is an exciting endeavor. This class is about a joyful process, rather than a series of tight finished products. Drawing should be about pleasure and a desire to do more, not worry or doubt – you’ll feel that. Whether you have no prior experience or are refocusing on drawing, this is your class.

Drawing Trees in Silverpoint
with Kathleen Moore
Asynchronous Class
Fridays | Feb 26 – Mar 26 | 10:00am-12:00pm
This class is Asynchronous: The class will consist of a weekly recorded demo + 2 hours in class on Zoom.
Learn how to create delicate, gleaming drawings in silver!
Silverpoint is a fascinating drawing medium. Before graphite pencils were developed, artists made drawings with silver wire! The medium can be challenging – you must prepare the surface before the silver will make marks and it is almost impossible to erase – but when you see your drawing shimmer in the light, you’ll know it’s well worth the extra preparation!
In this class you will:
Learn how to prepare a ground that will accept the silver
Plan your drawing and transfer it to the ground
Learn how to draw with the silverpoint and other silver objects
Create beautiful drawings of trees
“Drawing Trees in Graphite” highly recommended as a prerequisite. The class will consist of a weekly recorded demo + 2 hours in class on Zoom + Email Critiques..
